Australia

Not surprisingly, the world’s largest island country produces loads of seafood. The stereotype is shrimp (called “prawns” Down Under) on the barbie. But there’s also uniquely Australian sea creatures like yabbies (freshwater lobsters), Moreton Bay bug (or Bay lobster), barramundi (a delicate white fish), and trevalla (Antarctic butterfish). Increasingly, modern Australian chefs are cooking with indigenous ingredients, including kangaroo, quandong (desert peach), and emu. Established initially as a British penal colony in the 1780s, Australia has attracted immigrants from all over Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The result has been an upswing in Mediterranean- and Asian-focused fusion cooking. Still some traditions never die. Fish and chips, meat pies, and sausage rolls remain important fast foods. Served with “the lot,” an Australian hamburger includes beetroot, a fried egg, and pineapple. Australia is also the fourth largest wine producer in the world, renowned for making big, ripe reds.

Swiss Cheesy Cauliflower

Reviewed on Oct. 6, 2008 by PRINCESS ANTZ
This was good. I added some breadcumbs & additional cheese on top of the dish. It was slightly bland but it complimented the spicy lamb cutlets I made very well.

Blueberry Coffee Cake II

Reviewed on Oct. 6, 2008 by Amystar79
I followed the reciexactly and it turned out very nice, but a little dry. I understand that this is a coffe cake and therefore should be eaten with said beverage. However, i still prefer it to be a little less dry. So next time i will decrease the flour to 1 1/2 cups and increase the vegetable oil to 1/3 cup. i will also double the steusel topping and try to melt the sugar a bit more before putting it on top of the cake.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed on Oct. 4, 2008 by Vanessa
I am not really a big fan of apple pie but I don't mind it. But my family, they loved it! My dad kept 'mmm-ing' over it and telling me how good it was! I actually stuffed it up by pouring the sugar mixture on the apples instead of the top crust but it still came out really good! Next time my family want Apple Pie, this is the recipe I'll use! Thanks a bunch for this!! :D
